vBulletin 3.7.5 contains a number of bug fixes, details of which can be found in the bug tracker.

Bulletin 3.8.0 ("Gold") to be Released on Thursday, January 8th

3.8 has progressed well through the beta and release candidates stage. We're happy to announce that the stable release of 3.8.0 will be made available to all customers with active licenses on Thursday, January 8th.

We would like to thank all customers who have taken part in the beta/release candidate process and especially those who have filed bug reports.


Upgrading from Previous Versions

3.7.5 is a maintenance release. We recommend that all customers running prior versions of vBulletin 3.7 upgrade to benefit from bug fixes and stability improvements.

PHP and MySQL Requirements

Please note that vBulletin 3.7.x requires at least PHP 4.3.3 and MySQL 4.0.16 or later.

However, we recommend that vBulletin 3.7.x is run on PHP 5.2.8 with APC (or a similar opcode cache) and MySQL 5.1.30 for best performance and stability.

End of Life for PHP 4

PHP 4 has now reached its end of life. We strongly recommend that customers update their servers to PHP 5.2.8 if they are still running PHP 4. vBulletin 3.7.x supports PHP 5 without any problems, though you may need to disable strict mode for MySQL, see here on how to enable 'force_sql_mode'.

Note: We will continue to support PHP 4 in the vBulletin 3 series.

Today, the vBulletin team is proud to declare version 3.8.0 to be our stable, supported release.

vBulletin 3.8.0 is available immediately from the Members' Area to all customers with active vBulletin licenses, and will be offered as the primary choice to those making new purchases. We recommend that all customers with active licenses upgrade to vBulletin 3.8.0.

Google AdSense Integration

vBulletin 3.8 features a control panel to allow you to quickly add Google AdSense advertising units to your forum and monetize your site traffic!

To get started, please visit the members' area and either sign up for a new Google AdSense account or assign your existing account with vBulletin.com. Once you have linked your members area account to your Google AdSense account, all vBulletin downloads will include the advertising control panel. (It will not be included unless you do this.)

From the control panel, you can choose an advertising package that contains the amount and type of ads that you want to feature - and deploy it instantly with just a couple of clicks. The positions and ad unit types chosen for each package are designed to give the maximum possible revenue for your site. Text-based advertising units will automatically inherit the color schemes of any styles you have on your board. Should you wish to experiment with the different ad packages, you can change your mind on deployed package at any time, including the option to remove ads completely.

There are many new features and improvements to existing functionality in vBulletin 3.8.0 over vBulletin 3.7.x. Here is a brief list of just a few of the highlights.

Support for 3.7

This release supersedes the 3.7 branch as our primary product. Active maintenance of 3.7, including fixes for functionality breaks and security problems, will continue for approximately six months (to 1st July 2009), after which only security fixes will be released. Upon the release of vBulletin 4.1, the 3.7 branch will be end-of-life'd and no further security fixes will be made available and customers will be advised to upgrade to vBulletin 3.8 or newer in order to gain fixes.

PHP and MySQL Requirements

Major performance benefits can be had by taking the recommended route rather than simply satisfying the required versions.

What is a 'Gold' Version?

When talking about software, the term 'gold' is not related to the color of the application. Rather, it refers to the practice of burning the final version of a software product to a CD-R so that it can be sent to a large scale CD press for large-scale distribution. It is used to indicate that the code is ready for deployment to customers. The official name of this new version is vBulletin 3.8.0.

Installing or Upgrading vBulletin

Anyone who has installed or upgraded any version of vBulletin 3 before will be familiar with the process, but for those who are new to the system, the vBulletin manual has all the details for installing and upgrading.

Template Changes

A large number of templates have been changed when compared with vBulletin 3.7.x. It will be necessary to revert affected customized templates or otherwise carefully integrate the changes into your custom versions or new features and existing functionality will be adversely affected. A complete list of the templates you have customized whose original version has been changed by the 3.8.0 upgrade is available within your Admin Control Panel after the upgrade is complete.


Bug Reports

As with any software, bugs will appear. If you find a problem that you believe to be a bug, please don't post about it on the forums where the development team may never find your message, but instead use the dedicated bug tracker to make a report that can be tracked through to completion.

Before reporting a bug, please ensure you are able to reproduce the problem on a board using a default, uncustomized style with all plugins disabled.

vBulletin 3.8.1

vBulletin 3.8.1 is the first maintenance release of the vBulletin 3.8 series. Maintenance releases will follow our scheduled release policy.

vBulletin 3.8.1 fixes a number of bugs found since 3.8.0 was released. Some of the issues fixed include:
Rejecting a group transfer requests removes all transfer requests
Profile privacy only hides information in limited cases
Column mismatch when disabling social group messages
Bad social group display when icons are disabled
JavaScript error when dismissing a notice
Social group icons not removed from filesystem/"new groups" list properly when deleted
Birthdays shown on wrong day in specific cases
Social group home page lacks proper float containment

Social Group Subscription Temporarily Disabled

Due to confusion over the functionality provided, vBulletin 3.8.1 has temporarily disabled the ability to subscribe to entire social groups. You may still subscribe to individual social group discussions.

We are planning to improve this feature and re-implement it for the release of vBulletin 3.8.2.

If you wish to re-enable the feature yourself, you can remove the HTML comment around the "subscribe to this group" link in the socialgroups_group template.

Вышло обновление для популярного плагина vBulletin - vBSEO v.3.3.0 RC1.
Плагин меняет ссылки форума на более удобоваримые для поисковиков, тем самым улучшая и ускоряя индексацию вашего форума, что, в свою очередь, влечет к увеличению числа посетителей.
Новая версия еще не финальная, но все же рекомендуется установить ее, если у вас стоит уже форум 3.8.x. Она полностью совместима с новыми функциями последней версии форума.

История появления и развития vBulletin​

В 1999-м Джон Персиваль (John Percival) и Джеймс Лимм (James Limm) открыли форум, используя движок UBB Classic от компании Infopop. Поскольку их сайт становился все больше и больше, они заметили, что UBB не всегда справлялся с большим числом пользователей.

Ища выход, Джон Персиваль решил, что будет лучше написать свое собственное программное обеспечение. Первоначальная разработка была исключительно списанным вариантом UBB, но использующая PHP и базу данных MySQL. Например: улучшенная система продуктов, для более легкой модернизации и установки модификаций (хаков) и дополнительные функции на AJAX'е (асинхронный JavaScript и XML).

Версии 3.6 и 3.7 сделали vBulletin еще лучше, расширив и без того большой функционал форума. В начале января этого года вышла финальная версия 3.8 (форум уже работает на Alpha 1), в то время, как разработчики давно уже готовят нам сюрприз в виде 4-й версии. Произойдет это правда не скоро. Возможно все же в 2009 году, в честь 10-летия компании.

На данный момент vBulletin является одним из лучших форумных движков на рынке. Возможно даже самым лучшим.

В июле 2007-го года Jelsoft была куплен компанией Internet Brands Inc, ведущим производителем сайтов и форумов, различной тематики.

Несколько интересных фактов:

• Название Jelsoft происходит от инициалов James E. Limm и Software. John Percival очевидно не упомянут.
• Разработчики обращаются к серверу, который они называют "Ninja Development Server".
• Буква "v" в vBulletin фактически ничего не обозначает.
